Why Do You Get Them?
Around your eyes and below them, there are many small capillaries, and the skin is very thin. The capillaries can rupture easily, and then the blood spills into the open areas of your skin, just the way bruises appear elsewhere. Since that skin under your eyes is so thin, the bruising shows up quite readily.
So…. There are two main methods of reducing under eye dark circles’ appearance.
- By creating a thicker skin layer by increased production of collagen, and…
- By strengthening those little capillaries under your eyes, so they won’t burst.
You need to keep these methods in mind when you’re treating those dark circles.
Home Remedies We Like:
You may have heard some of these, but you probably haven’t tried them all:
Lemons!
Each morning before breakfast, squeeze one fresh lemon into eight ounces of cold water, and then drink it on down! Lemons help your liver to remove toxins. Since these are carried by your bloodstream, they could rupture those tiny under-eye capillaries. Maintaining a healthy liver allows it to remove those dreaded toxins more easily, which reduces the chance that they will rupture small blood vessels like those under your eyes.
Tea Bags!
This is an old and simple remedy, but it can be very effective. Soak two tea bags in warm water and then ring them out. They should not be dripping, but they do need to be damp. Place the tea bags on your eyes after lying down on your back, and relax for about a half hour. This should also be done as soon as you wake up in the morning. If your morning routine is too hurried, you can do it before you go to bed.
Be sure you use green tea for this treatment. And the more caffeine the better. It’s like the opposite of what’s healthiest to drink, as far as caffeine goes.
Orange Juice & Honey!
Mix orange juice, honey and a bit of flour together until the mixture is smooth and thick but not sticky. You won’t need much at all, just a bit to be applied under each eye. You can cool the mixture in the refrigerator first. Leave it under each eye for about 15 to 20 minutes for best results. You may do this before you head out for work in the morning, and believe us, whenever you see your eyes in the mirror throughout the day, you’ll like what you see.
Coconut Oil
We already use coconut oil for so many different things, why not try and use it to get rid of those dark under eye circles?
To use, massage your choice of extra virgin coconut oil under your eyes. Do this right before going to bed and rinse it off the next morning. The vitamin E in the oil will soothe and heal damaged skin cells.
Cucumber
A quick fix for your eyes includes soaking two slices of cucumber in lemon juice for 3 minutes inside the refrigerator. This way they are nice and cool when you apply them on your eyes.
Leave them on for 10-15 minutes and be very careful not to get the lemon juice in your eyes. If you prefer, stick to our lemon and water solution mentioned above!
Milk
Another quick solution when wondering how to get rid of dark circles under eyes is using milk since it contains lactic acid. This is great for reducing puffiness and darkness around the eyes. Make sure the milk is cold and soak two cotton balls. Place them under your eyes for 2-3 minutes or until desired.
