Some dermatologists will tell you that frown lines don’t even come from facial expressions, but rather from sun damage to the skin of your face. Whether expressions hasten their appearance or not, the lines between the eyebrows and across the forehead can be exasperating to deal with when it comes to anti aging.
Notice that children are quite expressive, and they don’t have wrinkles or lines, some physicians say. Others point out that they may well have lines later, when they are older. Facial wrinkles and forehead folds are exacerbated by the muscles in your face interacting with the skin as it ages. In addition, the sun affects your skin’s elastin and collagen matrix, which, when it breaks down, leaves you with saggier, thinner skin that can’t regain its former contours.
Some people prefer a natural approach to hiding facial lines. Natural remedies work by replenishing the skin’s keratin and Vitamin E, that you lose as you get older. These remedies also re-grow dead skin cells not previous growing due to sun damage.
Aloe Vera oil may also be used in treatment of frown lines. You can use it daily, whether you have a commercial mixture or grow the plant yourself. Apply the oil in the most affected areas first, then in those lesser effected, to keep them from getting worse.
Olive oil is a wonderful source of many vitamins, and they all help in regenerating blood cells. You may also mix in cream and honey, to create a natural wrinkle cream. Apple juice and pineapple juice can be applied to the face, too, to reduce wrinkles and lines.
You may opt to use Vitamin E capsules by opening them and applying them onto your skin. This can also be mixed with lemon, honey and yogurt, and allowed to stay on your face for about 15 minutes, before you wash it off.
Wrinkles in the forehead, whether horizontal or vertical, are formed, if not partially caused, by movement of the muscles in the face. The use of Botox or other muscle relaxers will minimize their appearance. If you have lines that are quite deep, you may look to a dermal filler. All of these treatments are only temporary. They’ll need to be repeated every several months.
Botox treatments work by decreasing the actions of the muscle, so the skin will smooth out. Since many people have had frown lines for some time, they don’t use their forehead muscles as much, and this may result in needing smaller doses of Botox.
Hyaluronic acids are used for forehead wrinkles, as well. These do not freeze the muscle like Botox does. Rather, they plump up the wrinkle so that the creases are not as evident. Some patients select to have both Botox and HA done at the same time, if their surgeon advises that this will work in their case.
If your wrinkles don’t respond to other treatment methods, you may opt for the forehead lift, which is a surgery to treat lines and wrinkles on the forehead. In this procedure, a surgeon will make incisions at your hair line and correct the lines surgically. This is the most invasive procedure, and is usually left unless other treatments for frown lines have failed.
